Luke 9:57 – 62 KJV
“57 And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
59 And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
60 Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
61 And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
62 And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
Debt
Are you ready to follow the Lord without looking back!?!
How can you go forward without looking back if you are always a slave to debt???
Imagine going to follow Jesus Christ with all your heart, helping minister the Truth to others and in the same time having debt collectors calling your phone excessively filling up your voicemail.
Luke 4
“18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.”
John 8
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
-Through Jesus Christ we have already been set free. It is not His will that we go back to live like a slave because of debt.
This world promotes us to buy buy buy, encouraging us in the mindset that Debt is normal and good and offering us many credit cards to go get all we want from this world and then pay back later with interest.
The Lord on the other hand teaches us to owe no man.
Romans 13:8 KJV
“Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.”
Romans 13:8 NLT
“Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.”
And, Godliness with contentment is Great Gain.
1 Timothy 6:6-10 KJV
“But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
1 Timothy 6:6-10 NLT
“Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content. But people who long to be rich fall into temptation and are trapped by many foolish and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. And some people, craving money, have wandered from the true faith and pierced themselves with many sorrows.”

Owing people due to chasing all that can be obtained with money from this world keeps a person always looking back and always in constant need to make more money to support the bills they have made for themselves. We are called to be workmen of Christ but how can we fulfill our true calling when we have the noose of debt around our neck?
Consider what the bare necessities are in this life.
Could you live with less changes of clothes, less variety of food and posh meals, could you live in a smaller place with less cost?
Remember, Jesus said He did not even have a place to lay His head(no certain home), BUT He was the man who lived a life completely Obedient to the Will if God.
Jesus could have pursued all He could get from this life too, but it would have held Him back from God’s Plan. When living a low/humble life going after only the necessities of this life, one can be much more FREE to serve the Lord without any other distraction.

Deuteronomy 28:9-13 KJV
“9 The Lord shall establish thee an holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou shalt keep the commandments of the Lord thy God, and walk in his ways.
10 And all people of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of the Lord; and they shall be afraid of thee.
11 And the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which the Lordsware unto thy fathers to give thee.
12 The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
13 And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandments of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them:”
In Christ we are the head and not the tail.
